Artist Spotlight
My first experience watching him was when he went absolutely nuts with Justin Bonitz of Tallah, during Graystone’s live performance of their song ‘Musician Mansion’. I was floored. I haven’t really been a fan of vocal olympics since Will Ramos made the Deathcore vocalists of the world get all in their feelings (Did people really forget about Dickie Allan?); despite the feelings I still have about vocal olympics, I loved this.
Maybe it was the stage presence that Austin possessed during that performance, maybe it was his chemistry with Justin Bonitz that I was impressed with; I’m always a fan of when vocalists can play off each other, the best example I can think of being Angelmaker. Whatever the reason was, I knew I had to go check out more of his vocals.
Vocalist of the now disbanded For the Likes of You and current vocalist for Dark Watch, Austin brings it, plain and simple.
Focusing on Dark Watch, Austin manages to be what keeps me coming back. The instrumentation is fantastic, and being a drummer of 20 years I’m a big fan of what Eric Buck does behind the kit; but the draw for me is still Austin.
Austin is somebody to watch, no matter if you’re already familiar with him, or you live under a rock like I do; he is one of the vocalists that, in my opinion, is moving the genre forward. You can hear Austin on ‘Cosmo-Deus’, the recent release by Dark Watch, and catch him on ‘The Dickey Dines Show’, either way you’re in for a good time.
Below you can find links to both ‘The Dickey Dines Show’ and Dark Watch’s Instagram. Austin, the spotlight belongs to you.
