Why Aren't You Watching
Finn Mckenty, a name that for some reason is controversial. Facebook hates him, Reddit loathes him, Ska fans despise him, Youtube isn’t much better, and I have no idea why. As controversial as Finn is, my take on him is a little more controversial than your average Reddit dwelling Metal elitist. I don’t hate him and I see no reason to.
Finn has two channels, The Punk Rock MBA, and his personal channel Finn Mckenty. Both are good, have well done videos, and show different sides of what Finn brings to the table. I have been watching Finn’s content for years now and there have been many takes that I consider HOT.
(If you’re reading this Finn, I understand that Sleep Token is like an acquired taste, but after playing Wembley they have clearly asserted some dominance)
Some of those takes are about artists I love, like Scene Queen, but music is subjective. I’ll repeat that, music is subjective, and although I’ve heard him call her “horrible” I’m not going to clutch my pearls over an opinion. Everyone has one and if you can't get past that, you'll never be able to focus on anything else.
If you focus on his personal channel, you get a small peak into who Finn is as a person. A guy with a nuanced view on music, who embraces youth, and has had an impact on my personal music taste. Finn has introduced me to many artists I wouldn’t have given the time of day to five years ago. Those things don't hold a candle to why I like Finn the most.
What I like most about Finn is that he is a person who has urged people to take chances and says it is never too late to do so; and frankly that is part of the reason I’m writing this right now. I’m going to be 30 in September and I spent 15 years of my life afraid to write about music. I'm still not confident with what I have to say, but when you hear something enough, it starts to stick. “It is never too late” stuck for me.
Although this was about the person and less about the content, I can’t recommend it enough.
Below are links to both of his Youtube channels. Why aren’t you watching?
