It's Local: Garret Anders
Photographer, videographer, director, and producer Garrett Anders has been carving out a spot in Maine for a while now. With beautiful shots from a multitude of angles and videos that have the power to go viral, he is one you should watch out for.
I used to click Instagram stories at lightning speeds. Garrett had posted a video he had made recently. I watched, thought it was great, and started speeding along again, not realizing I had answered his poll asking if the video needed any work.
Not five minutes later he messaged me (In my opinion, that is a sign of an extremely serious creator) asking what I thought needed work. That was when I saw what I answered on his poll. We talked and it was a great conversation. He ended up showing me a few more videos (I was trying to get into marketing & consultation at the time) that he made, they were amazing.
When filming in nature or capturing Maine’s coast, the footage is smart. He has a great way of following what is on trend while also sprinkling his own unique style. Garrett never makes an editing choice without it serving a clear purpose and that is paramount when capturing what is in front of us; but I believe he really shines when getting more creative control.
I’m talking about music videos. The music video is an artform that is frankly stale. In my opinion it became stale after the age of TRL. Garrett is one of the videographers out there working his ass off to keep the artform alive. He captures your attention. Mixing old school, psychedelic and raw elements in his videos. You might think it would be too busy, or not work. Years ago I would’ve agreed with you, that is, until I saw his videos for the songs ‘Outta Time’ (Eteis feat. Joey Jet & Labor207) and ‘Aquafina’ (Labor207).
Those songs are fantastic, but when you add in his videos, they’re taken to the next level. ‘Outta Time’ for example, when Eteis comes on the song he is briefly seen on a couch. Garrett takes that small bit of footage, makes it look like it was filmed with a camcorder, all while shining an incredible spotlight on Eteis. It’s clean, while being gritty at the same time, creating a sense of vulnerability for each artist on the song.
The proof is in the portfolio, Garrett has the potential (In my mind, he is on the fast track) to be the next big thing. He might be local for now but I think he could be a nationwide presence. Below I’ve linked Garrett’s Instagram and listed things he has worked on. Go take a look so you can see exactly what I mean.
