It’s Local Music

Hip-Hop isn’t really something that we aren’t known for. We have Spose and that is usually where the conversation ends for most people, fact is, that just isn’t true. There are a handful who are making the rounds, trying to get to that next level in a state where Hip-Hop is difficult to market; one of the people trying to make that happen is Joey Jet. I asked Joey a few questions and he had a lot to say.

Joey Jet, 1/5 of The North Creek Collective (Eteis, Labor207, Joey Jet, Thankyoumorello, and Occuluss) is an artist who has been at it for a while now. Joey has been trying to, in his words, “Build the foundation, for all the hidden, and current talent in Maine.” Continuing by saying “(Eteis) and I have been networking in the area for over 10 years.” He wants to bring change to how Hip-Hop is perceived in Maine saying “Making actual change to the scene would be huge.”

Growing up listening to the original Trap like Three 6 Mafia, and Gucci Mane, as well as New York heavyweights Jay-Z and Big, Joey began to craft the style we hear today behind the mic. It isn’t all Trap beats and New York rhythm with Joey, he also draws from more introspective Hip-Hop artists like Mac Miller. Citing Erick the Architect and The Alchemist as inspirations, one thing is certainly clear, Joey has an all-encompassing view of Hip-Hop.

At the end of it all I simply asked “What is the goal”, a question that really separates the artists from the hobbyists, and his answer might surprise you.

“The goal for my music is to inspire you to be more aware when moving through life. A lot of people, including myself, are lost. Writing and creating something that is bigger than myself helps me make sense of the world around me. Music is my therapy, my place to show emotion. I’d really like to show everyone, these emotions are relatable.”

Joey hopes to go even further and take things to the next level in the near future, and I think the future is closer than even he realizes. You can catch him, and the rest of North Creek, at upcoming shows around the state. Below I’ve linked Joey’s linktr.ee below as well as his Instagram. Go show him some love, catch him at a show, and go stream his song ‘Ghost Town’. It’s Local Music, but not for long.
